I am not good at this!

Check out Birdies Place for photos: birdiesplace.etsy.com. This is Julie's shop and she needs views and feedback.
Emaleigh's cupboard is working hard and trying to figure out how to be more profitable. Prices may have to go up because I don't want to skimp on material by going with the cheapo stuff. Maybe look into wholesale?

Cool etsy people!

I meet the neatest people on Etsy! One person I met this week is Blair from Mountainavenbaby.etsy.com I am making her daughter a dress and I didn't have enough fabric and AMAZINGLY she had the exact fabric I needed. She is sending it to me and I am making the dress for her!

Next I met Carleen from creationsbycarleen.etsy.com and we are trading a skirt (I made) for jewelry (she made). Cool. Here is something I bought from her:

It's Friday!!

I love Fridays. And the best thing is you know no matter how long the week seems that good old Friday is waiting for you at the end of that week! Yeah! I work my full time job at the library all week so on the weekend I get happy because I can sew! Saturday I will make a trip to the fabric store to get some fabric for my latest order, a skirt, and maybe do a little shopping with my daughters. Fun!!
I talked to my sister this week and she is thinking of opening a shop on Etsy. She is a Botanical Healer and she makes cool herbal products from her homegrown organic herbs. Cute Hamster!

Kendall is a model!

My neighbor Kendall modeled a couple of items from my shop and she did a great job! She was so well behaved and seemed to enjoy herself! I have posted the pics on my etsy website. Here is one!
Also, I sent a customer her order of the red kyoko dress and now she would like a tie for her 2 year old son to match the dress. I got a pattern for that from this link:http://www.purlbee.com/the-purl-bee/2009/3/3/mollys-sketchbook-little-boys-tie.html
We'll see how it turns out. Today is the first day of fall, I love it! The only problem is having to get up in the dark :(

It's Friday!

It's September 11th, thoughts to all how lost someone in the 9/11 tragedy 8 years ago.
It is really starting to get chilly here in Maryland! Time to start working on Fall clothes in earnest. Maybe going to football tonight, unless it rains. I may have a little model for the jacket I made and I hope to take the pictures this weekend. In the meantime I am finishing a kimono dress and curtains for teacher Kim.
I will also be watching the US Open....go Rafa!

What's up?!

Wow! Busy times! I have 2 daughters and they both had big news! One is getting married (July 2010) and one is expecting her first child (April 2010). Exciting!
I have gotten a few more sales on Etsy and some more sewing work through contacts in my local area (slipcovers and curtains). I am expecting some pictures from a patron of my store. She is sending me pics of her daughter wearing one of my dresses. Can't wait! Went camping this weekend and did a little sewing. Dogs love camping!

Busy sooooo busy!

When I start a sewing project, inevitably I find that I learn something new. Even during the short time that I have had my Etsy shop, I have learned so much! I think that seeing people's reaction to my collection and what items they order is so interesting and I really enjoy trying to follow up with what my customers seem to like and add more things that they might be interested in. I am doing a little bit of "home decor" sewing which is not my favorite, but is still enjoyable. I am altering the dress I made for Emelia (too big) which is really a challenge! I also made a pretty dress for a little girl in Texas and her mom is going to send me pictures of her in it. I will post them when I get them. I am also asking a friend of mine if I can use her daughter as a model for some of my clothing. She is 2 and very cute!

Emelia's dress will begin shortly!

Emelia has chosen the Amy Butler Belle Chrysanthemum fabric for her dress so now I can start making plans to make the dress. I looked up elastic smocking on the internet and found great advice for doing this since it is a new technique for me. Here is the link: www.thriftyfun.com/tf67395276.tip.html
I also looked up boning because this dress has this also. Hopefully I can find all the supplies! Anyway, I'll keep you up to date with my progress. Slow but steady!

Workin' hard

Wow! I have a lot going on, fun!! Right now, I am almost finished with my first organic cotton baby outfit, want to make more. I am making a porch glider cushion for my friend Gail and hope to start work on a dress for Sharon's friend Gale. Also, I'm making a dress for daughter Emily. I am planning some other new stuff:
1. Girl baby outfits
2. Baby hats
3. Cool skirt from Anna Maria Horner
4. Long sleeve kyoto tops
5. New kimono patterns for toddlers
6. Amazing vintage pattern dress

So much to do...so little time.
Anyway, it keeps me out of trouble. This dress is so cool, I want to try something similar.

More work more ideas

I sold the wrap skirt the same day Sharon bought her other skirt. I was happy as I needed that boost. I have started reading a book on internet sales and hope to get some more ideas. I think I will do some shows this fall and see how that goes. I am not one for craft shows but I'm thinking about it. I am now working on a big project for Sharon's friend Gail. I am remaking a dress she really loves and I think it is going to be a challenge. I am going to look for fabric today or tomorrow and get a pattern too. Also, I finished a skirt for Suzy although I may still have to make a few alterations. Hope to get it on the site tomorrow. Anyway here is a skirt I made for Sharon. I love it!

Still plugging away!

Still at work adding to the inventory of my store. I made a skirt for my sister Sharon and sent it 2 days ago. She should get it today. Can't wait to see what she says. I am still working on the real focus of my shop. I had thought children's clothing maybe or babies or ladies. I have looked at bags and wallets. I need to settle on a focus and work on that more. I am going to explore other shops more to see their focus and if they have a wide focus or not. I love creating and that's why I'm working on this. I have added a few new things, the blue and green kyoko dress and the cowgirl skirt, both of which I love. Suzy wants a skirt so I am going to the fab shop this weekend to find something she would like. I also want to work on my sewing space to make it more user friendly. (Me=user)! Maybe I will take before and after pics of that and post them. In the meantime I am having a Yart Sale at my site and I want to start a Facebook page. I'll let you know how that goes!

New clothing added to my shop

I have added three things to my shop today. I especially love the Kyoto dress with the sash. It is so soft and gorgeous. I would love to see a little girl wearing it!
I am really trying to focus on the oriental style clothing right now and hope I get some more sales. Sharon wants a flair skirt so I am going to start that for her. It is going to be purple. I will post a picture when it is done! Oh well, back to sewing!

A new sale

A wonderful lady from California ordered 2 of my items! The orange and green dress and the red pjs. I sent them to her and she gave me great feedback! Thanks to you lady from Shrunken Cat Heads. She sells awesome jewelry on Etsy. I am excited about my store and I really need to add a lot more inventory. I made some headbands that I will put on and I got some other cool patterns I am going to try. Fun fun! Julie graduates on Thursday so I have been busy with that and getting ready to camp. Julie said to bring the sewing machine camping with me...I might just do that!

Trying this thing!

I got this download from my etsy shop. It is called mini etsy. Cool. Just push the link at the bottom of the pictures and you get to my shop. (It's cut off a little but it still works.

First sale! (from my sister)

I sold the cute purple dress to Suzy and sent it over to London today! I used my cool packing slip and tags. Fun! I keep reading how hard it is to get started so I just have to keep trying new and different things to see what sparks peoples interest. Thinking of going to organic fabric for some of my stuff and see how that goes. I always wanted to try that. So here is the outfit I sold to Suzy!

Keep on going!!

I put 2 more things on my site today, the pink skirt and the orange and green kimono. I also replaced some to the green skirt pictures. I talked to Sharon yesterday and she was really impressed with the site. Cool! Now I just need to sell something. Anyway, I hope Sharon looks into putting some of her stuff on Etsy, I know she could find a niche. I am still trying to find mine. I like the kids clothes but I love women's skirts, dresses and cool tops. I'm just going to keep adding stuff and see what happens!
We are having a thunder storm!

Wow I'm busy!

Working a full time job is the pits when I would rather be home working on my sewing! I have put a few items on my Etsy page and they look OK....but I would really like to have better pictures. I have to learn a lot more about photography, I was reading about one shop owner that said she opened her shop with blurry pictures and no idea what she was doing. Boy that sounds familiar! Anyway, it's fun and I am always looking for new things to add to my inventory! So take a look at the cute skirt I will be putting on the site soon.

Tuesday, April 21, 2009

Julie and I took pictures of the first pieces I would like to put on the Etsy website. I have to edit the pictures and come up with the descriptions. I have the cute kimono pjs and the little empire waist kimono dress, the purple wrap dress with the hat, the blue polka dot skirt, and I'm working on 2 other skirts. Fun! I'll put pictures in next time.

I learned to sew on this tiny machine. It still works! It doesn't have a foot pedal, the little lever to the right of the wheel goes up for "sew" and down for "stop". Very cute!
